Recognized Among the World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2026

At WD, sustainability is not a separate initiative—it is embedded in how we innovate, operate, and help our customers scale in the age of AI. That’s why we are honored to be recognized by TIME and Statista as one of the World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2026.

This recognition reflects our commitment to transparency, accountability, and measurable environmental impact. Among companies in the IT, Electronics, Hardware & Equipment sector, WD stands out as one of the top 10 US companies selected.

The evaluation considered a range of factors, including sustainability commitments, performance, and public disclosures. Our A- CDP climate rating and Science Based Target Initiative reflect the rigor behind our approach. We recognize that a significant portion of our environmental footprint—and that of our customers—comes from the use of our products. That’s why we set a 50% emissions reduction during use phase for sold products by FY2030 versus FY2020 (per petabyte) goal because we know our Scope 3 emissions play a big role in our footprint and our customers’ footprint. As of FY2025, we are already at 31% emissions reduction thanks to a combination of increased storage capacity per drive and advancing product design initiatives. At WD, we aren’t just committed to sustainability, but sustainability is in everything we do.

Transparency remains a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy. Earlier this year, we published our FY2025 Annual Sustainability Report, which includes a third-party assured greenhouse gas emissions inventory and key sustainability performance indicators. We were also recently named to the S&P Global Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America, recognizing our commitment to responsible business practices, governance, and sustainable innovation.

Our sustainability efforts extend beyond emissions reduction. We continue to advance ambitious goals related to carbon-free energy, waste reduction, circularity, and water stewardship. These priorities help us reduce environmental impact while supporting the growing data infrastructure needs of a digital world.

One example is our Advanced Recovery and Rare Earth Material Capture program, developed in collaboration with Microsoft and other partners. The initiative is focused on recovering critical materials from end-of-life hard drives that historically would have been lost through traditional disposal methods. During the pilot phase, more than 90% of rare earth materials contained in processed devices were successfully captured, demonstrating the potential to create more circular supply chains and recover valuable resources at scale.

As demand for data continues to accelerate, so does the need for infrastructure that is both scalable and sustainable. At WD, we believe innovation and responsibility go hand in hand. We are proud to be recognized among the World’s Most Sustainable Companies and remain focused on building the technologies, partnerships, and practices that help create a more sustainable future.
