Tuition Bills? Our Global STEM Scholarships Can Help!

Apply now for your STEM scholarship from Western Digital

A little financial support can go a long way to helping students succeed. That’s why we are investing in the education of our future leaders: the scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians who will positively impact the world through technology. I’m thrilled to announce that our Western Digital Scholarship Program is open for applications for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Meet Alberto, a Previous STEM Scholarship Winner

Each year, we award up to $1 million in scholarships to support undergraduate students in their pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree. In 2019, we awarded scholarships to 252 talented individuals through our program. One of the recipients was Alberto, a Computer Science major. He shares his story about receiving one of our STEM scholarships below:

STEM scholarships Alberto

Dear Western Digital, I am extremely grateful to be chosen as a recipient of the Western Digital Scholarship for STEM award. Thank you for your generosity and altruism, which has allowed me to continue my University studies. This award will ease the stress of college tuition, allowing me to focus on my school work. I’m very excited to share the news with my family as they also had to shoulder this burden. I also thank you for all the other recipients of this award. These opportunities are what allows less privileged students like me a chance to succeed. Thank you.”

How Western Digital STEM Scholarships Work

We are especially committed to increasing access to STEM education for underrepresented students. Their field of study must be within the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In addition, these scholars must be undergraduates enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year college or university in one of the following countries:

  • China
  • India
  • Japan
  • Malaysia
  • Philippines
  • Thailand
  • United States

Previous scholarship awardees are encouraged to reapply, as students can win a total of two awards during the course of their undergraduate studies. This year, the application period will close on April 2nd at 11:59 PM PT. You can find out more about our scholarship program details – including full eligibility criteria and the link to apply – at www.westerndigital.com/scholarships .

Supporting STEM Students around the World

In 2018, we started the Western Digital Scholarship Fund with a single goal in mind: to help realize the potential of students who would use science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to someday change the world. Since then, we have offered up to $1 million each year to create new possibilities for exceptional students whose educational opportunities would be expanded by financial assistance.

Take Akousa, for instance, who is studying Management Science and Engineering and who won a Western Digital STEM scholarship last year:

Thank you, Western Digital, for selecting me as a scholarship recipient. This will allow me to pursue my studies without a deep financial burden. This scholarship shares the high value I place on receiving a STEM education. I will be studying Management Science and Engineering in hopes of entering the technology sector.  Technology has the ability to drive society forward. So, I hope to use this scholarship to aid in my journey toward that goal.  Thank you, again, for your generosity and support.”

—Akosua K., Industrial Engineering, STEM Scholarship recipient

We encourage every eligible student to apply, just like Akousa and Alberto did, and give themselves a chance at having Western Digital support their educational goals. Because when students succeed, we all win!
