In this presentation, Lisa LaForge and David McKenzie will discuss the barriers to successful project collaboration between Engineering and Legal, and provide practical advice on overcoming challenges such as how to improve communication and make compliance easier for engineering. McKenzie, a licensed patent attorney, will also explain recent developments in software patentability arising out of Supreme Court decisions such as Alice Corp. which may have an impact on software development and FOSS.

SCST, a SCSI Target Framework

SCST is an advanced SCSI target software stack for Linux systems. The SCST software transforms a commodity server into a high-end Storage Area Network (SAN). SCST supports multiple SCSI protocols (iSCSI, FC, FCoE, SRP, iSER,…), multiple local storage interfaces (SCSI pass-through, block I/O and file I/O) and also storage drivers implemented in user-space via the scst_user driver. It is the basis of several other Open Source projects, e.g. Openfiler and Enterprise Storage OS. During this talk we will explain why this project is useful, how to use SCST and which new features have been added recently. Additionally, more information will be provided about support in SCST for scsi-mq and also about the initiative to evolve towards a single Linux SCSI target stack.
