HGST, a Western Digital brand, will be presenting at the upcoming Huawei Connect 2017 Conference in Shanghai and I am very excited! Why?, you may ask; it is just another tradeshow…but it is not. It is an incredible opportunity, for several reasons: 1) China is the land of technology growth, 2) China’s huge population is embracing new technologies such as cloud and mobile, and 3) The data behind these new cloud and mobile apps plays a critical role in creating new markets!
Let’s start with the first point: China is the land of technology opportunity. According to a recent IDC report, “State of the Market Q2 2017; IT Spending Review and Outlook”, year over year growth in Asia/Pacific is targeted at 6%. Furthermore, a majority of servers will be supporting IoT, big data, social, robotics, cognitive/AI and cloud rather than traditional workloads.
China is an exciting place to be right now. With over a billion people, there is tremendous opportunity. It is a country who has and continues to embrace new and innovative technology. China is also a late bloomer, which means these new mobile technologies can be deployed without the challenge of integrating them with or replacing existing legacy technologies.
Huawei Connect 2017’s theme “Grow with the Cloud” is perfect for China and its neighbors. The cloud is the growth engine for computer server and storage technology. As new technologies, including data storage, are deployed in the cloud, new applications, new economics and new markets are enabled. The mobile world expands and is supported by the growing cloud. This includes content and support for new and more sophisticated mobile content & applications, autonomous vehicle functionality, security/surveillance support and IoT technologies, to name a few.
Along with this growth in the mobile and cloud realms comes growth in data. Western Digital enables the capture, access, aggregation, transformation and preservation of data through a wealth of technologies and products that bring to life new ideas and possibilities.
